Codorniu is the oldest wine and cava producer in Spain, and today we are joining a tour of their winemaking facilities.

How old is Codorniu?
Codorniu goes back to the 16th century. Miquel Reventos and Anna Codorniu were part of wine growing families. In 1658 they married and Anna Codorniu took Miquel's surname, however, Anna's surname became the name of this famous international brand, Codorniu.

How is Cava Made?
Cava is made using a traditional method called "Methods Champenoise". This is a two stage process, and the key to this method is the secondary fermentation in the bottle, with yeast and sugar. This stage then produces bubbles creating what we all know as sparkling wine.

Where Can I do a Tour of Codorniu?
The main facilities are located in Barcelona, Spain. A tour usually lasts around 105 minutes, with a special cava testing at the end, however, there are different packs that can suit your desired experience.
