What are the benefits of Wiseco forged pistons?

What are the benefits of forged vs. cast pistons? The two biggest are strength and weight, and those two performance edges are intertwined. John will explain the difference in the manufacturing processes for forged vs. cast pistons, which leads to a stronger component produced from the forged method. A stronger piston means that more material can be shaved from the piston, which makes it lighter.
Wiseco piston coating offers another edge. A forged piston is more dense due to the manufacturing process, and that means it takes longer to heat up in the cylinder. Wiseco piston coatings help to keep the piston quiet in the cylinder until the piston expands due to heating, which creates a tight seal inside the cylinder.
So how do you choose a Wiseco piston?
If your engine has a nikasil cylinder wall, part of the choice is made for you: they’ll come in only one size. You can then choose the desired compression, but keep in mind increased compression may require a change in the fuel/air map and may also require a different fuel.
If you have a bored cylinder, your options will revolve around the bore. Talk to your machinist about the desired bore on your cylinder. Wiseco factors in the tolerances when offering their pistons, so your machinist simply has to bore to that given size since Wiseco has considered the variances.
