Kah Faroshi Bird Market
Appearing in the second half of the video, the Kah Faroshi bird market has existed in Kabul longer than the country has been in a state of conflict. Caged birds are a favorite of many Afghans. The feathered friends in cages providing reprieve from decades of violence and war. The Kah Faroshi bird market is tucked inside a narrow alley behind the Pul-e Khishti Mosque, and is situated near the Maiwand Square. Countless stalls, shops, and vendors sell a myriad of birds from the famed Afghan favorite "Kawk" (partridge), canaries, finches, and the "Kaftar" (dove). During busier hours, it can become difficult to even pass through the bird market as just a few people on a crowded afternoon after the Friday prayer can cause a jam in pedestrian traffic.
