Seoul City to invest US$ 1.3 bil. to build world's biggest startup hub by 2030, nurture unicorn companies

The capital of South Korea, Seoul City, aims to become the world's largest startup hub.
Mayor Oh Se-hoon on Wednesday announced a 1-point-7 trillion won or 1-point-3 billion U.S. dollar spending package. that aims to foster at least 50 unicorn companies by the year 2030.
"Unicorn" meaning: startups that eventually become worth one-billion dollars.
The plan will see around a thousand new firms accommodated in the Seongsu-dong neighborhood in east Seoul, an area that's popular for new and upcoming companies.
This as startups have been facing difficulties after the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic slowdown.
The city is also planning to build a robot cluster to develop startups in what are called "future industries."
