On 13th June W&LLR loco
On 13th June W&LLR loco 'Sir Drefaldwyn' hauled a special train for donors who have contributed to its major overhaul. This was the first official service with the restored locomotive.
699.01 was built by the Franco Belge company in 1944 as a tender-tank locomotive for the German Army but it's unlikely it entered service with them. In 1946 it went to the Salzkammergut Lokalbahn and was sold on in 1955 to the Steiermärkische Landesbahnen who converted it to a tank loco, gave it their number 699.01 and where it worked until 1965. In 1969 the loco was bought by the W&LLR, entering service here in May 1970.
Although still awaiting a final coat of black paint, this trip marked the successful rebuild after 23 years out of service.
