The basic idea for this song was inspired by Bernie Taupin's wife, who would say, "The bitch is back," if Elton was in a bad mood, which Taupin then developed the lyrics around.

At least Elton had good enough humor about the ribbing to then create the melody and perform, record and release the song as a single, the second hit from "Caribou".

Several US radio stations refused to play the song, however, due to the controversial use of the "B" word.  Perhaps this is why the single only made it to No. 4 and not No. 1 on the US charts.

Like The Beatles, Elton excelled at everything from rockers, mid-tempo pop and ballads, probably accounting for their places in the top 5 recording acts of all time.  This is one of his best rockers, imho.
