Any true Muppets fan is familiar with the hilarious schemes of ‘Pepe the King Prawn,’ who first appeared on Muppets Tonight as a sidekick to Seymour the Elephant. In the Muppets saga, he is commonly now seen with Gonzo and Rizzo. What fans may not know is where Pepe’s character originated, and how Bill Barretta pulled inspiration from his Mother in Law’s sister as a major part of the origin story!
In this video, we had the opportunity to interview the great American puppeteer while on the May 2019 Disney Vacation Club Member Cruise. Barretta goes in to detail on Pepe’s origin story, including where the infamous “Okay?” came from, and more on bringing this legendary character to life.
