Usually zoo animals do not pay attention the visitors but this silverback Gorilla found her audience and they were loving it.
There are roughly 700 mountain gorillas remaining on Earth, and nearly half live in the woods of the Virunga mountains. These gorillas live on the green, volcanic slopes of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo--places that have seen much violence that is human where the gorillas never have escaped unscathed.

Many conservation initiatives are meant to help mountain gorillas, and it's thought that their amounts may be slowly growing or constant. Still the conservation initiatives continue to face important threats from habitat loss and poaching.

Mountain gorillas have shorter and longer hair arms. In addition they tend to be a bit larger than other gorillas.

Trees can climb, but are generally found on the ground in communities. These troops are organized according to social structures that were fascinating. One dominant, older adult male, often called a silverback due to the swath of silver hair that adorns his dark pelt leads troops.

The leader organizes troop actions like eating, nesting in leaves, and going about the group's 0.75-to-16-square mile (2-to-40-square-kilometer) home range.

He may stand erect, throw things, make aggressive charges, and pound his enormous chest while unleashing a chilling roar or barking out strong hoots. Despite these displays and the critters' physical power that is obvious, gorillas are usually calm and nonaggressive unless they're affected.

In the thick woods of central and west Africa, troops see plentiful food for their vegetarian diet. The troops eat roots, shoots, fruit, wild celery, and tree bark and pulp.

Female gorillas give birth to one baby after a pregnancy of nearly nine months. Unlike their strong parents, newborns are miniature--weighing four pounds (two kilograms)--and able simply to cling to their mothers' fur.

Young gorillas remind human observers of kids. Much of the day is spent in play, climbing trees, chasing one another, and swinging from branches.

In captivity, gorillas have exhibited essential wisdom and have even learned uncomplicated human sign language.
