HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE APPLE BUTTER: Easy Stovetop Recipe with Peeled or Unpeeled Apples

If you've got more apples than you know what to do with, then this video is for you. I show you How to Make Homemade Apple Butter. It's so much easier than you think and you can either peel the apples or leave them unpeeled. (Hint: if you leave the peelings on, the apple butter will be thicker. After trying it both ways, my personal preference is to peel the apples. But it's entirely after you. ) Read on for the recipe:
Apple Butter
6 cups of apples, cored & cut into 1-2" pieces
(You can use any type of apple you like: granny smith, fuji, & golden delicious are best for apple butter. You can even mix varieties.)
1 cup apple juice or water
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup sugar (Note: I used 3/4 cup because I felt it was a little too sweet)
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. all spice
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Peel (if you choose), remove core, and cut apples into 1-2" pieces. Place in saucepan with 1 cup of apple juice or water. Set burner to high heat and let it come to a boil. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20-30 minutes until apples can easily be smashed with a fork. Pureé with an immersion blender, or tranfer apples into blender or food processor and pureé until smooth. Add in brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, cloves, all spice, and nutmeg and mix until well combined. (If you used a blender or food processor, transfer pureé back into saucepan.) Cover with lid and let simmer another 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool. Store in air tight containers and keep refrigerated.
Tip: If using glass jars, wash thoroughly and sterilize by microwaving jars for 3 minutes. Let jars cool before filling them.
