The WEIRDEST 2D Mario Game

So, the Nintendo Direct passed and no new 2d Mario game was announced. Rats. So instead of a brand-new game, I'm stuck with Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins after, Nintendo decided to drop the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance systems onto Nintendo switch online to compensate our needs. Released in 1992, it was the last 2d Mario game for a good while until New Super Mario bros. So now I'm playing it out of general curiosity and need of having a good 2d Mario game in my life and to my surprise, this may be the best 2d Mario has ever been, introducing so many new and wacky features and even... WARIO!?
