Blue spectrum effect on plant growth

Blue light is photosynthetically efficient but is the least efficient of all the PAR spectrum.

Studies have shown increasing the % of blue light in the spectrum reduces cannabis yield so we dont want too much blue in our grow light spectrum.

However having Blue light in the grow light spectrum is very important for plant development.

Blue light inhibits cell expansion which means reduced internodal distance, shorter stems and results in shorter more dense plants.

Now with the use of LEDs most grow lights emit about 15% Blue in the spectrum which is a good balance between minimising blue for maximum yield and having enough blue to keep the plants short and dense which is ideal for indoor growing.
