This was a presentation at the May 22nd, 2024 Klamath Basin Monitoring Program (KBMP) Meeting in Yreka, CA by Max Ramos from the Yurok Tribe. Presentation Summary: The removal of four major dams on the Klamath River in 2024 will be the largest river restoration effort undertaken in North America and perhaps the world. Dam removal will restore access to greater than 50km of the Klamath River mainstem for coho salmon, but mainstem habitat may not be suitable for rearing juvenile coho salmon. Instead, small tributaries may provide most rearing habitat for reestablishing coho salmon. We used four approaches to evaluate the physical habitat conditions in six Klamath River tributaries above existing dams to assess their potential to support juvenile coho salmon.
