I thoroughly tested PS5 Remote Play using both a PS4 and a PC analyzing latency with a high speed camera and analyzing the compression quality on various resolution and quality settings and I'm ready to share my analysis.

Overall the remote play on PS5 is more solid than the previous generation. 1080p is supported right out of the gate here (PS4 didn't support it until the PRO), and at times the image quality can be convincing enough at the highest settings. There is some latency however and I found that during a 60fps game I would have latency of about 4 frames or 66milliseconds as a baseline. As I changed my settings and moved my traffic to wifi in various configurations the latency went down hill. The video contains a table of my findings, but essentially wifi makes the connection unstable. At times it can still hit that base 4 frame lag, but generally it is turbulent (dropping up to 10+ frames depending on configuration).

I was also dismayed to see that some features have been retired for the PS4 days. Particularly the vita and PSTV support. This was to be expected, but in lieu of that mobile support (Vita) I was hoping that the Android/iOS support would have been made more robust, or at the very least, better controller support. This has not been implemented yet, and remote play on mobile (particularly Android) is a pretty big let down unless you happen to have one of the very few phones that Sony has specifically white listed.

Overall I'm really happy with the features performance for what it supports, but I do feel like it is a one step forward and two steps back feature currently. Hopefully we see expanded support in the future.
