“Simply Banya: The Life and Football Path of Anatoly Banishevsky” is an exciting documentary story about the undeniable talent and incredible contribution of a football player who became one of the most prominent representatives of his era. The film immerses the viewer in the life and career of Anatoly Banishevsky, born and raised in Baku, who devotedly served his city throughout his life.
From a young age, Banishevsky demonstrated his football talent, joining local club Neftchi at the age of 16. His play aroused admiration and recognition not only from fans, but also from experienced coaches. While famous clubs in Moscow and Kyiv offered him a place in their ranks, he remained loyal to his home club.
At the age of 19, Banishevsky made his debut in the first national team. One of these goals, a 25-metre header, inspired many football fans and became a legendary moment at the Maracana Stadium against the Brazilian team.
The film covers his participation in the 1966 World Cup, where the country's team reached the semi-finals, as well as his contribution to Neftchi's victory in the USSR Championship. However, after the defeat in the final of the 1972 European Championship, which put an end to his calls to the national team, Banishevsky faced difficulties and lost inspiration.
