Most folks don't realize that commercial almonds are usually "pasteurized." Known as the "almond rule," or, the "salmonella rule," since 2007 it the FDA mandated that almonds grown in California's 400-mile-long Central Valley area must be pasteurized by either steam treatment or gassing with the (toxic ) fumigant propylene oxide (PPO) before sale to U.S. consumers.
The only way to buy non-treated almonds is from the farmer directly. Googling this will help lead you to farmers selling raw untreated almonds.
If you're using almond butter, or almond products to replace the processed foods that line our grocery store shelves, it strikes me as important to ensure that they, too, are of the highest quality for our health and wellness.
