Welcome to the Guilbault Girls Show where you will have the opportunity to hear from mothers, fathers, siblings, and individuals themselves about their journey of living with a disability.
Today’s guest is 18-Year-Old Dawson Clemens. He is a guitar player and a singer in a band with his brother 19-Yeare-Old Brother Drew, who has Autism. Dawson loves country music and finding different ways to have fun. He is also a volunteer firefighter with the Charlestown fire company.
I feel it’s so important to share the different perspectives and experiences of siblings. One to spread awareness and two to let others know they aren’t alone.
Siblings of children with disabilities have unique challenges—and siblings of children with autism are no exception. But as with virtually everything related to autism, each situation is unique. Because autism is such a wide-ranging disorder, autistic children and teens may present in completely different ways. As a result, siblings may find it relatively easy or extremely challenging to live in the same household.

“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that means an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to grow in a safe and healthy environment.
