I often get asked in my OPD practise that what is the best time to get pregnant after periods. The best time to get pregnant after periods depends upon your period cycle length. The best time is 1 or 2 days before you ovulation and one or two days after your ovulation. This is because the egg is fertilisable only for about 12 to 24 hours after it is getting released. Whereas the sperm can be staying in the female genital tract for about 7 days once it is ejaculated and usually the 28 days cycle the ovulation happens at around the 14th day. So around 12, 13 and 14 the day are the most fertile days. But the ovulation can happen as early as 9th day, 10th day also and also can happen as later as 19th day, 20th day also depending upon the cycle length of the patient. So an average to tell the patient, the most fertile days of the patient is from the day 8 to day 21 of the cycle and sex atleast every alternate days in this time would lead to more chances of pregnancy.
