The stop (occlusive) consonants /p/,
The stop (occlusive) consonants /p/, /t/, /k/ are unvoiced (no vibration of the vocal cords). Their voiced counterparts are /b/, /d/, /g/. In word-initial position, English speakers pronounce /p/, /t/, /k/ with aspiration, but French speakers do not: pont -- bon, ton -- don, qu'on -- gond, "Ton dompteur bondit sur le pont pour contenter le gondolier."
