"The great Assamese litterateur Sahityarathi  Rasaraj Lakhminath Bezbaruah collected some very popular folk stories, edited those and published in a story book collection 'Burhi Aair Sadhu'. 'Tula Aru Teja' is one of the very popular stories from the great book 'Burhi Air Sadhu'.
In this story a farmer had two wives 'lagi' means the preferred one and 'elagi', the less preferred one. The 'elagi' had two children Teja and Kanai . The 'lagi' had a daughter Tula. The story is about these two daughters Tula and Teja of the farmer. 'Lagi' was jealous of 'elagi' as one day the farmer preferred to have the sour watery rice given by 'elagi' than 'lagi's hot, spicy and rich cooking. She consulted a wicked women of their village who advised her to convert 'elagi' to a big tortoise by applying black magic. Such the 'elagi' became a tortoise and started living in the pond. One day Teja and Kanai discovered her. They were treated cruelly by their step mother 'lagi'. They told their tortoise mother about it and the tortoise gave them food to eat. Such the children grew up and became more beautiful and healthier. 'Lagi' doubted this and send Tula to enquire the fact. Knowing about the tortoise helping the children 'lagi' along with the wicked women planned to kill the tortoise and the tortoise was killed. Then it became a flower tree and a lemon tree. The king of the land noticed the trees and asked Teja and Kanai for some flowers and lemons. Kanai agreed to give flowers and lemons only on the condition that the King would marry his sister Teja. King agreed and Teja became the queen. Their step mother couldn't digest it. She again planned to kill Teja and converted her to a big common mainah by applying black magic and send Tula in Teja's guise to the palace. One day king discovered the fact and on his touch the common mainah got her real look. King ordered to punish Tula. Tula was killed and her flesh was send to her mother. Then only her mother got a lesson.
As the story was only to read and listen and some technical problems were faced by us in writing the script suitable for a film. We made some minor changes to fit the situation without touching the genuine structure of the story.
This is just a very interesting and a great contribution of the great litterateur to the Assamese literature. We are trying our best to pectoris it."
