Here I want to introduce how you can flash the BIOS yourself without any additional hardware in several ways.
In the first option, consider using the built-in utility in the BIOS or UEFI. Each motherboard manufacturer has a different name for it, for example, ASUS - EZ Flash 3; Gigabyte has Q-Flash; MSI has BIOS UPDATE or UEFI BIOS UPDATE. Regardless of the name of the section for the firmware, the essence is the same in all cases. Therefore, I will consider flashing the example of an ASUS motherboard. From the beginning, you should find out its name and revision, if any. Most often, the model name of the board is indicated in the center, but the revision is in one of the edges of the motherboard. Then, going to the manufacturer’s official website, you should find information about the motherboard, where you can download drivers and the latest BIOS firmware on it. Download the firmware file to a USB flash drive or hard drive, and, preferably, to the root for ease of further action. After completing the above steps, you should restart the computer or laptop and go to the BIOS or uefi settings. In my case, when I start the computer, I hold down the del key. Going to the UEFI BIOS settings, I select the Advance mode item. In my case, in the menu that opens, I go to the Tool section and select ASUS EZ Flash 3 from the options presented. The utility presented on the motherboard allows you to flash the BIOS both via the Internet (provided that the motherboard is connected to it) and using the media. I choose the firmware using the storage medium. Because the firmware file was saved on the hard drive, I go to the appropriate folder where it is located and press Enter. Next, in the window that appears, it remains to confirm the flashing process.
As another option for updating or flashing the BIOS of the motherboard, you can use the USB BIOS Flashback - provided that the board supports this function (as indicated by the corresponding button on the side panel). Then, similarly, as in the previous method, you first need to find out the name of the motherboard and, having found this model on the manufacturer’s website, I select the current version of the operating system. From the list I find the BIOS firmware file, where we can see the text in red, informing that when using the USB BIOS Flashback, the downloaded firmware file should be renamed to this name and extension. Alternatively, this can be done using the BIOS-Utilities utility, so I download it. Transferring the BIOS file and utility archives to a flash drive, unpack them, and then run the BIOS-Utilities program, which renames the BIOS file properly. Having deleted the file archives, I extract the USB flash drive. Then you should connect the motherboard to the power supply, powered from the mains. If you have a toggle switch on the power supply, you should put it in the on state. Without starting the mother in the standby mode, you should perform a flashing. Here you should pay attention to the presented diagram of connecting a flash drive for this board. If you install the USB flash drive in another usb port, then the firmware just won’t work. The connection diagram for each motherboard can be found on the manufacturer's website or, in extreme cases, using the Internet. I insert a USB flash drive into the specified slot and hold down the USB BIOS Flashback key for 3 seconds until the Flashback LED blinks three times, which will mean activation of the firmware. As a result, you can see the activity of both the flash drive itself and the keys. The completion of the flashing process will be indicated by the lack of flashing of the BIOS key. It remains to verify by running the motherboard.
A fairly uncomplicated option may be updating the BIOS directly in windows, provided that such a feature is possible on the motherboard of a computer or laptop. In this case, I will introduce the upgrade process on an hp laptop. By going to the official website, you can see the presence of such softinki. After downloading it, I start the standard procedure, then, in fact, the process of preparing for the update goes, after which in my case the laptop will restart and the flashing will go.
