Òrìṣà Èṣù was translated to Satan by Bishop Samuel Àjàyí Crowder. Àjàyí Crowder, A slave who was taken as a slave when he was 12years old, Crowder returned home (Yoruba land) after the end of slave trade.

He returned home as a Bishop, on a mission to  Christianised the Yoruba people. He translated Bible from English version to Yoruba version. Remember that Crowder was a teenager when he was taken as a slave, who have no or little knowledge about Yoruba religion.

Crowder made great blunder by translating Satan to Òrìṣà Èṣù.... This step of his later generates questions like "why is it only Òrìṣà Èṣù Is translated to a character in the Christians Bible?" "What of the other Òrìṣà, Why are they not translated?".
