This is what technique different from others – we separate the axial reduction into two steps. The first step is an axial depth cut, the second step is the subgingival preparation.

Let me explain why – I think most of you would agree it is easy to visualize 1.5mm of occlusal reduction, however, we have found that unless you are experienced placing zirconia crowns, most clinicians find it difficult to visualize the .8mm of axial reduction you will typically need.

By incorporating a second depth cut – the axial depth - you will eliminate the guessing and trying the crown on and off multiple times, which will dramatically reduce your valuable chair time.
