Volkswagen has taken the wraps
Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the third-generation Tiguan. The new model is based on the latest iteration of the MQB Evo platform and comes with an updated plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The SUV is now 4539mm long, 1839mm wide, 1665mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2679mm, which is 30mm longer than the previous model. It now has 652 litres of boot space (32 litres more).
The newest update brings fresh styling to the face of the Tiguan, which aren’t just for a better visual appeal. The LED headlights are connected by a slim glass-covered strip, while the bumper is made of a blacked-out element flanked by radiator openings. Volkswagen claims that the new design has helped improve the drag coefficient which now stands at 0.28 Cd
This new Tiguan has a similar side profile to the current car, albeit with a slightly more rounded shape. Alloy wheels start at 17 inches on the entry-level car, going up to optional 20-inch wheels on top-spec models.
The rear end is where things have changed the most over the outgoing car. You now get a large rear spoiler as standard, as well as a funky-looking full-width light bar across the tailgate. Go for the R-Line model and you get a sporty-looking rear bumper.

Volkswagen claims to have offered high standards of material in addition to a new Digital Cockpit featuring a redesigned 10.25-inch digital instrument display and a driver-oriented 15.1-inch infotainment system running on VW’s latest MIB4 graphic design. The touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel have given way to physical buttons for enhanced tactility. and a new head-up display.
Sporting its own tiny screen is the rotary control that can be used for different functions, like adjusting the ambient lighting color, turning the volume of the audio up or down, or controlling the driver profile. Voice assistance is on deck, allowing those sitting behind the new steering wheel to control other aspects of the vehicle.
The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with two PHEV powertrain options, with either 201 BHP or 265 BHP. The PHEV version is equipped with a 19.7 kWh battery that offers an all-electric range of 100 km.
VW also offers the Tiguan with a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It also gets cylinder deactivation tech. Customers also get the option of a 2.0-litre engine producing 201 BHP or 261 BHP.
Volkswagen has carried over the 2.0-litre diesel engine. It is available in two states of tune - 148 BHP and 190 BHP.
