We were lucky that we got the most experienced guide with us, but he takes limited people as he is old now. We explored all the important caves and finished by 4:00 pm. Ajanta exploration will easily take entire day. The hike down the caves from a different route which was very scenic and we hiked slowly while having fun, photos, fresh fruits and snacks which were sold by small vendors on the way. We had tea and some heavy snacks as we didn't had lunch at the small market near the car parking while returning. We left from Ajanta caves around 6:00 pm for Aurangabad where we had booked our night stay for Day 2. It was exactly 101kms drive to our hotel from Ajanta Caves. We reached Aurangabad by 9:30pm, had dinner in Lemontree Aurangabad, as our stay don't serve food. They serve breakfast only. Rooms were very basic and its an old property. We took a room for 3 people with 1extra bedding which cost us Rs.500/-extra. Breakfast was also okay but it needs maintenance and room improvement as charges are really high as per the room conditions. In Ajanta, stay options are really limited and we had very few decent choices.

Ajanta Caves : Ajanta caves are located in 104 kms from Aurangabad. It is dated back to 2nd Century. Ajanta was built in a secluded place, on a horse shoe shaped cliff surrounded by jungle to made an ideal place for monastic sanctuary. There are 30 caves in Ajanta and few are unfinished. Most of the caves are based on Mahayan Buddhism. Ajanta caves are covered with Mural Paintings on ceiling and walls colored with natural colors, Buddha Idols, Stupas, Sculptures based mainly on Buddha's life, incarnations and Jatak Tales. They also show the lifestyle and emotions of that era in form of stories and detailed sculpture figures, nature paintings of various animals, birds, fruits, flowers, all made by artist monks and their associates capturing the beauty and emotions of human and spiritual beauty of Bodhisattva. Out of 30 caves
best work of Mural paintings can be seen in Cave No. 1,2,16,17and 19.
best work of Sculptures are in Cave No. 1,4,17,19,24 and 26.
The numbering of caves are done consecutively and not chronologically. One can only imagine the glory Ajanta Caves would have showcased when it was newly constructed and maintained. At end of 7th century Buddhism began to decline and these shrine fell into desolation and ruins and rediscovered in 1819 but till then time took a huge toll on its beauty.
