Once you acquire citizenship in another country, you'll need to surrender your Indian passport, as India doesn't allow dual citizenship. The process is straightforward – simply send your Indian passport along with the required documents listed on the government website. You'll receive a surrender certificate, and your passport will be invalidated.
With the OCI card in hand, you'll enjoy various advantages. Unlike traditional visas, the OCI card has lifelong validity, making updates hassle-free. Whether you're visiting or staying in India, there are no lengthy restrictions on your stay. Even overstaying for more than 180 days won't pose an issue. This flexibility is a major benefit compared to regular visas.
Furthermore, if you're considering working or starting a business in India, the OCI card presents favorable conditions. While private sector work is possible, certain government positions are off-limits. Owning agricultural land might be restricted, but inheriting property is permitted.
