In the backdrop of violent
In the backdrop of violent ethnic clashes in Manipur, shoot at sight orders have been issued under AFSPA to control the worsening law and order situation. The demand for including Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribe (ST) is central to the ongoing violence in Manipur. The recent violence broke out when some antisocial elements disrupted largely peaceful rallies by tribal groups such as Nagas and Kukis opposing ST reservation to the dominant Meitei community.
