강원 2024 동계 청소년 올림픽 대회, 대한민국 첫 금메달 확정

Time now to take a look at what's happening in the world of sports.
Joining us in the studio is our sports editor Paul Neat.
Hello, Paul.

Hello.

Let's begin with football and the AFC Asian Cup.
South Korea were able to rescue a late draw against Jordan on Saturday.
Tell us more.

Yes, well it was an eventful match.
Korea took the lead early on thanks to a penalty from Son Heung-min.
Son was fouled in the box and after a long VAR review, the referee awarded the spot kick.
But Jordan found an equalizer on 38 minutes -Park Yong-woo with an unlucky own goal when trying to defend a corner.
Jordan scored again before on the stoke of halftime -Yazan Al-Naimat found the bottom corner with a well-taken shot from the edge of the box.
But Korea fought back and eventually got their just rewards.
Hwang In-beom's shot from the edge of the box on 91 minutes made its way through to goal going down as an own goal by Yazan Al-Arab.
This means that Korea sit second in Group E and have not yet sealed a place in the knockouts.
Australia, Qatar, Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia are the only teams to have done so thus far.
The last round of group games begins tonight.
Korea's last group game is this Thursday at 8:30 PM KST against Malaysia.
They can still finish first or second, and their final position will determine who their opponents are in the Round of 16.

Fingers crossed.
Let's talk about golf. The LPGA season got underway this weekend.
What can you tell us?

Yes, the HGV Tournament of Champions.
It was won by Korea-born New Zealand star Lydia Ko.
Ko held a two-shot lead going into the final day, and hit a two-under-par 70 in the fourth round to finish at 14 under par overall. to clinch the 20th LPGA title of her career.
It was her first win in a solo event since last 2022.
But what this win also means is that Ko has more Hall of Fame points -26 in total.
One more gives her automatic entry to the LPGA Hall of Fame.
Meanwhile, in the men's game, Nick Dunlap has become the first amateur to win a PGA Tour event in 33 years.
20-year-old Dunlap of the U.S. won The American Express title on Sunday.
But as Dunlap's an amateur, he won't receive the 1-point-5 million U.S. dollars in prize money.
That instead goes to the runner-up -Christiaan Bezuidenhout.
The last amateur to win on the PGA Tour was Phil Mickelson in 1991.

Alright, moving on to winter sports.
Some medals for South Korea at the ISU Four Continents.

Yes, Jeong Jae-won won gold in the long-distance speed skating mass start.
On Sunday local time in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jeong Jae-won recorded a time of 8 minutes 16-point-3-3 seconds beating Japan's Shomu Sasaki.
He also earned 60 sprint points to win the gold medal.
Jeong won the same event last year as well and is only the second person to win back-to-back titles.
Meanwhile, in the women's 1-thousand meters, Kim Min-sun finished third with a time of 1 minute 13-point-8-4 seconds to earn bronze.
It was her second bronze of the competition having also finished third in the 500 meters the day before.

And finally, to the Winter Youth Olympics here in Korea.
How are Team Korea getting on?

So far it's one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
The silver and one of the bronze medals were added today.
Jung Hui-dan in the women's 5-hundred-meter speed skating and Shin Seon-ung in the men's 500-meter speed skating.
The first medals came on Saturday, including Korea's first gold.
That went to Joo Jae-hee in the men's 15-hundred-meter short track.
Kim You-sung finished third in the same race to earn bronze.

Alright, thanks for that wrap-up, Paul.
See you next week.

Thanks.
