She was a beauty of great renown
He, the bravest warrior of them all

It could have been a match made in heaven, if she had not been promised to another.

The Mahabharat says – Arjuna kidnapped Subhadra

The Bhagavatam gives us a story of Arjuna falling in love with Subhadra, and after getting the consent of Krishna, and his own brother Yudhistra, kidnapping her, although she, in line with Balarama’s wishes, was engaged to be married to Duryodhana.

There is a version that says she held the reins to the chariot (making her the original Partha-sarathy?) to show she left with Arjuna of her own free will. There are other versions with more convoluted stories.

Reading our Puranas, Epics etc, it is evident that women often had little control over their destiny.
But we also come across several stories of women who spoke their minds, and lived lives according to their will.

Come with me to the story of Subhadra, Krishna's Veera-Sodari, his brave sister, sister of the brave one, the woman who, I'd like to think, preferred to hold the reins of her destiny in her own hands.
