The Mosaic program is proposed by the FAA to make several changes in both the light sport aircraft category and experimental aircraft category.
The proposed changes we care about are:
Light sport - a rule of weight limitation is being proposed in the Mosaic program to increase the current gross weight limitation on light sport aircraft. This will allow for more options and capabilities for light sports.
Experimental - a rule of build assist is being proposed that will allow a builder using a build facility to avoid the 51% rule. Currently a builder has to complete 51% of his or her aircraft build. But with the new proposed rule, a build facility will be able to build 100% of the airplane. This will save time and money for both parties.
