One hundredy years ago, there was a great war between humanity and beastkind. Once the war ended, an annual tradition was proposed where a female sacrifice would be taken from the humans to be eaten by the King of Beasts. This tradition continues on as the 99th sacrifice, 15-year-old Sariphi, is taken from her village to the kingdom of Ozmargo, a miasma-filled realm where beasts live and human entry is forbidden.
But Sariphi is not like the previous sacrifices. Her optimism and lack of fear towards the beasts and her fate surprises the otherwise fearsome King. Intrigued by the sacrificial princess and her history, he allows her to freely roam around the kingdom until the night of revelation despite the potential outrage. Little do Sariphi and the King know, their short time spent together has slowly set the stage for something unimaginably different for the future of Ozmargo.
Sallyvi is the 99th sacrifice to be presented to the king of monsters, who is impressed by her and has not harmed her. The anime reveals the story behind the king and how to survive in a kingdom of monsters and demons. Anubis apologizes to his Majesty for pushing him too far, angering the king. The two cards speak to the girl, and the king threatens to kill her, but she refuses. Anubis tells them to calm down because she is bound by chains and unable to escape.
The king orders the girl to return to his room, where he tells her that she would become minced meat if she tried to leave. She responds that her name means "sacrifice" in an old language. The king uses his power to stop the fools from shedding blood without reason through fear, and the girl realizes it is difficult to be a king. Sally mocks the king by putting flowers on his head, which gives her peace of mind. The king and the girl return to the palace for a series of nights of inspiration and rituals, where the girl acts strangely and the official is annoyed.
Sally and the king are taken to the altar room, where a monster appears and hits her. Sally stands up in solidarity with the king and tells him he is not a coward, but rather a monster with half of his blood being human. The king hides in the darkness and Sally believes he is not weak, but the advisor informs her that he always performs rituals alone. The king makes Sareefi his queen and Sally finds Leonhart, a brave-hearted name, to deceive him.
