Here's a diminished scale pattern for you that every jazz musician should know how to play!

In this video, I show you how to construct one of the most commonly heard diminished scale patterns. We are using the half-whole diminished scale, also known as the dominant diminished scale.

Diminished scales are symmetrical. This means that we can create some very interesting, repeating patterns. It also means that there are only 3 different diminished scales. It's worth getting familiar with the different families of diminished scales so you can make the most of this pattern!

You can use this pattern over diminished chords or dominant chords. It sounds great over dominant chords and adds a bit of tension whilst improvising. Practice incorporating it into your dominant improvisation :)
