Spin welding is a variation of friction welding which uses a rotational motion. Consequently this technique is only applicable to circular joint areas. Spin welding can involve relatively simple pieces of equipment such as lathes or drilling machines. Spin welding has been exploited in applications as diverse as ball cocks, aerosol bottles, transmission shafts and PVC pipes and fittings.
