After July 2nd 2015 proved to be a very hot day with temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius, metereological services issued severe thunderstorm warnings in the early afternoon, affecting the coastal and northern regions of Holland from about 6pm until 6am the next day.

This storm started with some heavy precipitation but that died out quite quickly.
The storm itself wasn't spectacular at first, but that was about to change.

Rather unprepaired as I was, I held my TASCAM DR-40 and a Rode NT4 microphone connected to it in one hand, while holding the camera with my other.

This unfortunately caused some microphone-handling to be recorded, I tried my best in editing that out.

After the first strike, you see me placing the camera on my bed, in an attempt to pull some plugs. There were 2 mains cables running more or less next to my feet and I wasn't very comfortable with that. After the second strike I did not really get the time to do something and after the third, I found it to be suicidal to even touch a plug still in a live wall-socket (yes, no powercut after the first strike!)

Unfortunately, I hit the record button after the third strike and in the adrenaline rush, I didn't notice that. Thankfully, the TASCAM kept running, allthough the loss of image is a pity, as strike number 5 was again a very clear and bright strike right in front of me.
