More than 30 years ago, there were fewer than a hundred wild boars, most around Tullgarn and Mörkö south of Stockholm. The first ones escaped when they were being loaded by a transport to a fence near Tullgarn's castle. The attempts to shoot them succeeded only half well, and it was enough for them to begin to multiply.
A parliamentary decision in 1980 declared the wild boar as unwanted in Sweden, with the exception of Stockholm County. There, a smaller population would be allowed for research.
However, the wild boar tribe grew strongly and in 1988 another parliamentary decision tore up the previous one and established the boar's home right in the Swedish fauna.
