A few of you may have noticed that Alpha publishes sponsored videos. In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro is discussing product promos, how they work, and his promise to you.
YouTubers have a dream to do this for a living.
Once you publish your first video and get your first subscriber, it's like a 'drug' and makes you feel validated. Everyone starts in the same way -- you make a video with your perspective, you upload it, and then an audience may like or dislike it. The more that people watch, the more advertising money you can earn from YouTube. You need millions of views to even consider YouTube for as a living.
CPMs (dollars per thousand views) determines how much money you make.
Subscribers mean nothing in terms of dollars-and-cents; it's all views. But having a lot of subscribes increases the likelihood that others will view the channel's videos. Even with a lot of subscribers and views, you aren't making earth-shattering money or numbers. Even with Alpha's views, the money isn't game changing. If you rely solely on the Google advertising to make a living, all your eggs are in one basket. And with the demonetization of videos, it's scary! Luckily Alpha is PC, and they've haven't discussed demonetizing manscaping.
The YouTubers sell merchandise and products.
Buying a YouTubers merchandise and products can support them, because a lot of time, they don't have the opportunity to publish sponsored videos. Some channels have more advertising opportunities than others, and integrating a brand / product into a video can be tricky. Alpha's smart move was to gravitate from strictly men's style to men's lifestyle. He can talk about anything related to men's lifestyle now.
Audiences can retaliate! But not Alpha's. Why?
When a product is out of left field, audiences will let the content provider know. But for Alpha, he's in the business of talking about men's issues. As a result, he gets approached by some really cool brands, and he can be incredibly selective & promote brands he really loves. The brands come to Alpha because they're willing to take a chance: (1) Alpha has to love the product, (2) they have to have a budget, and (3) they have to have the inventory. Alpha's YouTube videos produce traffic, and he loves looking with the small companies (like Anson Belt and Buckle). That is so incredibly cool for Alpha -- being able to partner with a company that believes in him!
Alpha takes showcasing these products incredibly serious.
Alpha will never promote what he doesn't believe in -- you may not necessarily love it -- but that doesn't mean that he doesn't think it's a great product. Keep in mind his audience is all over the place in regard to age, budget, and more. So, he can't just talk about budget products, and likewise he can't just talk about luxurious things.
Money, money! And legal stuff...
So how much money does a YouTuber make for a sponsored video? Per promotion, it's all over the board depending on the channel and the company. Not everything that Alpha talks about is a promotional item, unlike a lot of big YouTubers. Alpha gets bothered that big YouTubers are not disclosing the sponsored products that they show and talk about it. First, it's not legal - you have to disclose it orally, printed on the screen, and listed below the video. Also, all the way around it's a disservice to hide it -- own it! Just make sure it's not shit!
