Hey everyone!
Here's a step-by-step video on how to refurbish an old nautical ship wheel with a stunning modern twist!

I had an old nautical ship wheel that was somewhat sentimental but I needed to put a modern twist on it to match my décor.

First I needed to clean and strip away all the old/original paint/stain from the wood. I heard that oven cleaner ~ YES oven cleaner! ~ would do the trick, so I thought I'd give it a try. I generously sprayed it all over the wheel, getting every nook and cranny.

**Make sure to do this out doors/ in a well ventilated area, or use FUME FREE oven cleaner like I did  (due to the chemicals)**.

I left the spray on for approximately 1 hr.  Amazingly it worked!! Once I started to wipe it down I could see all the old stain and sealer come right off. Once it was all off and clean, I let it fully dry. I decided I wanted to white-wash it. I mixed my white paint with a little water and painted my nautical ship wheel. When the paint completely dried I sanded off some of the paint in random areas for an old weathered look.

County chic...yes,  but I still wanted a modern twist to it. Epoxy is all the new rage so I thought I'd give that a try. I chose to try an onyx-coloured one. I poured the epoxy mix in the centre and let that fully dry for a few days (just to be safe).

There you have it!  My new and improved, modern, shabby chic Nautical Ship Wheel!!
