OMG!!! Finally, her preservation complete, Flyin’ By, our 19’ 1938 Chris-Craft Custom Runabout, double cockpit forward is, well, ready to be flying by, she does with gusto. Her hull, including traditional bottom, is completely original and more than satisfies the ACBS criteria for a preserved, opposed to a restored, boat. Her post-preservation video details the process she endured https://www.seevid.ir/fa/w/PMRIjh8-QKw. Sadly, a family emergency prevented bringing her to the Algonac show. But she will be at the Vermont Antique Boat Show at the Community Boathouse in Burlington, VT on July 29. Even her bottom is original – interior planking, canvas and exterior planking. Yes, she must soak up, which is evidenced by the bilge pump running as the video begins. Her original 148 HP Chris-Craft LC flathead six engine is a strong runner. Using my cell’s GPS, we hit 39 knots at 3200 RPM. I briefly nudged her up above 3500, at which point we accelerated to 41 knots, but will likely run her at 3000, where the engine sounds and feels super comfortable. That we were way too excited, but did remember to run the bilge blower ahead of firing her, is evidenced by the offending fender left hanging on her rail as we left the dock. Shirley and I will have her out this afternoon for sure, but until then, she is tucked away in the 5,000 lb. capacity ShoreStation vertical lift we have installed on our shore. That remote-controlled shade is a blessing, as it keeps the varnish in the shade, save for when she is our romping over the water. Several folks have enquired whether she is for sale, and if so, at what price. My answer to them remains the same, “Everything is for sale at the right price.” Maybe next week and surely not today.
