This is a video endoscopy
This is a video endoscopy comparing a normal ear to an ear with a middle ear infection (otitis media). Courtesy of the Arizona Sinus Center https://www.arizonasinus.com. Notice the normal ear first. The ear canal is clear and the ear drum (tympanic membrane) is translucent. The ear drum reveals a reflection of light (light reflex). The space behind the ear drum (middle ear) is filled with air. Notice the second ear which has a middle ear infection (acute otitis media). The ear with otitis media reveals a bulging ear drum. The middle ear cavity is no longer filled with air. It contains a yellow-white substance (purulence or "pus") indicating infection.
