Tripoli is the vibrant capital of #Arcadia, situated in the heart of the historic region of the Peloponnese. It lies 158 km southwest of #Athens and 81 km from #Corinth. It has 44000 permanent residents and is built at an altitude of 650 m. Though often overshadowed by more famous Greek destinations, Tripoli is a hidden gem that offers a rich blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. In the Middle Ages the place was known as Drobolitsa, meaning Plain of Oaks.
Under the Ottoman rule, Tripoliçe, was one of the administrative centers in the #Morea Eyalet. During the Greek War of Independence, the siege of Tripolitsa was considered necessary for the success of the revolution. After the war, Tripoli was renamed, rebuilt and was developed as one of the main cities of the #Kingdom of Greece.
