ANCIENT EGYPT 2: The Old Kingdom and the Giza Pyramids
The Ancient Egyptian Kingdom encompasses the third, fourth, fifth and sixth dynasties. In them, the pharaohs begin to build great architectural works known as pyramids, stone mountains that would serve as their tombs. The most famous, the Giza plateau, near present-day Cairo, are about 5000 years old, and were built by the Pharaohs Keops, Kefrén and Micerino.
The society was evolving, stratified and jobs specialized. There were scribes, judges, architects, workers, merchants, nomarchs and even doctors. One of the latter that reached great popularity was Imhotep, that became the chaty, or Great Visir, of the pharaoh Zoser. Together they built the Stepped Pyramid that would give rise to the concept of pyramid that would carry out later pharaohs.
