The United States is known for its successful acquisitions of territories. For example, in 1803 it purchased Louisiana from France for $15 million, but that original Louisiana was much larger in size than it is today. This purchased territory occupies 23% of today's U.S. territory. Another successful purchase was that of Alaska from Russia for only $7.2 million. As well as these two cases there are other acquisitions and the most recent attempt to buy a territory was during the administration of Donald Trump, who expressed his intention to buy the largest island in the world: Greenland. So the questions are: What is so special about this snow-covered island? What have been the four attempts by the United States to buy Greenland? And how much could the world's largest island be worth? It is the largest island assuming Australia is not an island.
