The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends limits on digital media use (“screen time”) for children of all ages.  This includes discouraging use under age 18 months-old, up to 1-hour per day of non-school use for older children, high-quality content, viewing together as much as possible (“co-viewing”) and no screens in the child’s bedroom. Risks of excessive use involve sleep, weight, eyesight, mood, development, relationships and school. This video summarizes these recommendations and importantly, suggests fun and healthy “real-world” alternatives such as creative and outdoor play and reading books together. If looking for a challenge you’ll never regret, try to keep your child “Screen-Free Until Three!” Unplug, connect and have fun!
