Stainless Steel and Aluminum companies are very conscious of replanting forests and ensuring their products are recyclable. Alcoa’s video that I cited is beautifully made, and though I’d wish we didn’t have to destroy forests to get to the minerals, it’s necessary for human advancement… until we invent the replicators… or get them from the Vulcans (see my last video 😉)

P.S — Aluminum is lighter, so it is cheaper to ship (both in dollars and carbon cost) but the virgin aluminum process might outweigh the cost savings of shipping something lighter than glass because they’re shipped (yes, with ships) from China. Shipping by sea accounts for as much pollution as the entire country of Germany -- every year; over 1,000 billion kilograms of carbon emissions EACH YEAR. Per gram, the emissions are MUCH lower than flying, but overall it’s double the ‘dirty’ airline industry.
P.P.S -- I got the idea for this video while doing a purge of crap in our house. We had so many water bottles that I couldn’t help but do something about them! Now that I’ve filmed the video, I can recycle/donate them so they can rejoin the stream!
