Taipei 101 is a supertall skyscraper in Taipei, Taiwan's Xinyi District. It stands 508 meters tall and has 101 storeys above ground and 5 levels below ground.

Taipei 101 was built to highlight Taiwan's growing prosperity on the global stage at the beginning of the twenty-first century, and it was meant to represent technological evolution fused with Asian traditions. The structure incorporates many pan-Chinese and Asian elements, as well as a postmodern architectural style.

The tower is intended to rise from its base in a series of eight-story modules, each flared outward to resemble traditional Chinese pagodas. The top is capped by a smaller tower which forms a pinnacle.

The building incorporates double-deck elevators built by the Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corporation. These elevators set a new record for fastest ascending speeds in 2004, reaching 60.6 km/h (37.7 mph) or 16.83 m per second.

Let’s explore what makes Taipei 101 so special.
