Lactate vs. Lactic Acid Explained | Muscle Physiology

Working out produces H+ ions (acidic environment) not good for enzyme function

pH goes down as hydrogen ions build up (muscle acidosis)

Lactate is actually a base not an acid (missing a proton) (accepts a proton)

Pyruvate + Hydrogen ion = Lactate    Buffering

Lactate can give the H+ to an O2 and make H2O

Lactate often goes to type 1/ cardiac muscles/ liver (cori cycle)
