Aditya Roy Kapur works SO MUCH BETTER as a mellow, sexy, khaana pakaaoing spy rather than whatever Rashtra Kavach Om was.

The Night Manager India review by Sucharita Tyagi - I admit I haven’t read the book, but have watched the original multiple award-winning British series, toh is show ko remake kahein ya adaptation, who distinction na karte huye, id just say that this VERSION is a perfectly acceptable crime drama, much like Farzi was a few days ago. Lots of good-looking people doing questionable things in skillfully polished frames, the added aesthetic advantage here being that of international locations, Sri Lanka ke beaches aur villas dekh-kar vibes will come.
The Night Manager is the NIGHT manager because this character is supposed to work in the dark, watching people do things they don’t realize are being observed. Hence despite being a spy story, the show mostly stays away from action sequences and the more over-the-top notes of an espionage thriller. The protagonist instead receives physical therapy in a beautiful Sri Lankan resort type, cooks elaborate meals with the villain’s son, deliberately works on hiding away his machismo, surveilling more than attacking, refraining from loud declarations of patriotism, and I'm here for this mellow, sexy, secret agent, slowly making his way through the harsh unforgiving, lawless world of international weapons trade.

Indian actor Aditya Roy Kapur plays the titular lead in the Disney+ Hotstar Indian adaptation of “The Night Manager.” Based on the 1993 espionage novel by British writer John le Carré, the series follows the night manager of a hotel who is recruited to infiltrate an arms dealer’s inner circle. It was previously adapted in 2016 by David Farr as a BBC/AMC series, with Tom Hiddleston playing the titular night manager and, as revealed by Variety, Anil Kapoor (“Jug Jugg Jeeyo”) as the arms dealer antagonist. The Ink Factory, which was behind the 2016 adaptation, is also producing the Hindi-language Indian version alongside Banijay Asia. The creator of the Indian version is Sandeep Modi (“Aarya”). When Kapur was approached for the show, he was aware of the earlier production but had not watched it, something he rectified immediately. (via Variety).
