Ford Figo Hatch 1.5 Trend Auto Test Review

In June 2018, Ford South Africa launched the facelift version of the Figo. At the launch, this budget offering impressed me and I found that the automatic version somehow just felt right. Remember that the Figo is Ford’s entrant in the highly competitive segment that was originally populated by updated versions of older (obsolete) models. In fact, the original Figo was simply a previous generation Fiesta. That has changed and the segment has become ever more competitive, requiring participants to up their game. The new Figo, launched only a few years ago is now a separate model in its own right. Last year’s facelift was minor in respect of exterior looks, the main changes being the introduction of the corporate bolder trapezoidal grille and new headlights. The real changes were under the bonnet and on the interior. Ford introduced a new 1.5L 3 cylinder engine putting out 88kW and 150Nm, without the aid of a turbo. These are impressive numbers for a small engine, and it delivers …….. with the typical 3 cylinder requirement to keep the revs up in order to extract the performance. The 6 speed automatic gearbox is very smooth and comfortable in everyday use. Fuel consumption for the test period was 8.5L/ 100km. Not exceptionally light, but quite acceptable especially if noting that I was not on an economy run but enjoying the peppy performance. Being a mid-spec trend version, the car has a basic infotainment system sans touchscreen but including Ford’s Sync 2 connectivity. This works extremely well with Bluetooth connectivity. Trend also includes electric windows all round, ABS and 2 airbags as standard. In the interests of interior space, the boot is rather small at 200L with split rear seats that can drop to give a maximum load capacity of 856L if needed. Priced at R207 900 including a 4 year/ 60 000km service plan, the Figo competes very strongly in this growing market sector. #Ford #FordFigo #GoFurther #FordSouthAfrica
