Jim's on South Street, also
Jim's on South Street, also called Jim's Steaks or just called Jim's colloquially, has been regarded as one of the best cheesesteaks in Philly for decades. I still recall an interview where Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was asked if Pat's or Geno's was the best cheesesteak in Philly and he replied "Jim's." Located in the iconic Philly's South Street, the location is great and so was the food. Unfortunately, Jim's burned down in 2022 and its rebuilding and reopening was delayed. Finally, a few months ago, it reopened its doors.
The crazy lines are back and locals and tourists have swarmed Jim's again and many have proclaimed that not much has changed and Jim's is still the best Philly cheesesteak. Others, however, say that Jim's is still a good or even great cheesesteak, but it's not as elite as it used to be and something about its old magic was lost in the fire. We will try it for the first time in years to see if Jim's still lives up to its hype or if it's no longer the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia.
