🎯Question 14. : Comment on the resource potentials of the long coastline of India and highlight the status of natural hazard preparedness in these areas.

👉Introduction : India has a long coastline of 7516 km having various coastal geomorphological features.
🎯Body of the Answer
Coastline of India offers various resources for economic and agricultural activities given below:
👉1. Energy resources:
a. Presence of shale deposits (oil and gas) along the coastline of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh provides energy security to India to a certain scale.
b. Fossil fuel: Sedimentary basins along India’s coast are rich in fossil fuels. Ex. KG Basin, Bombay High.
c. Methane hydrates along the coast are a rich source of natural gas.
d. 695 GW of wind energy potential persists in India with the majority of it at the coastline.
e. Being a tropical area coastline has a vast presence of solar energy potential.
f. Presence of uranium ore at Karnataka coastline and monazite at Kerala.
🎯Even though solar and wind potential is high, it is not being harnessed fully because of several technological and other bottlenecks.
👉2. Wide shelf presence along the coastline of India has a vast potential for fisheries development.
👉3. Fertile soil along the coastline (delta region alluvial) is of primary use for crop growth.
👉4.Presence of biodiversity resource such as mangroves.

👉2. Usage of colour coding scheme for tropical cyclones.
👉3. Implementation of coastal zone regulation guidelines.
👉4. Implementing interlinking of river approach for flood control. Example: Krishna - Godavari Link Canal.
