The Labour government is gearing up to nationalise the railways, with plans to take over some of the UK's busiest operators within months with nearly three-quarters of train journeys in Britain set to be on nationalised services within a year.
Transport Secretary Louise Haigh has made the passenger rail services public ownership bill a priority, and it's set to be introduced to the House of Commons on Thursday.
Haigh declared: "Our transport system is broken, but today’s bill will pave the way for better trains that work for everyone, no matter where you live."
The legislation aims to complete the renationalisation process, building on the previous Conservative government's takeover of about 40% of services due to operator failures over the past decade
